Everyone Needs Micellar Water in Their Skincare Routine!

“Micellar (pronounced my-sell-er) water is a combination of purified water; hydrating ingredients, such as glycerin; and low concentrations of extremely mild surfactants. The molecules of those mild surfactants naturally group together to form microscopic spheres called micelles, which act like magnets for dirt and oil. When one wipes a clean cotton pad soaked with the cleanser on their face, the micelles adhere to the cotton while pulling makeup, sebum, and any other daily unpleasantness off the skin.”[1] Even though one does not need to rinse off the product, I recommend that one rinses their face after if they are able to—especially if the person has oily skin.

Micellar water is essential to everyone’s skincare routine because a lot of times, makeup and dirt is left behind on the skin (even if the skin looks and feels squeaky clean). For example, one can use a cleansing oil to remove makeup and then immediately wash their face with a foaming face wash and there will still be makeup left in their pores. Micellar water ensures that every trace of makeup and dirt is removed from the skin.

La Roche-Posay: Effaclar Micellar Water Ultra

This micellar water is another DFN favorite! This product is recommended for oily and/or shiny skin and does not contain alcohol, oil, soap, and parabens. Finally, we also love how this product is dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested for safety so it is very suitable for sensitive skin and eyes.

Caudalie: Micellar Cleansing Water

This cruelty-free, dermatologist tested, hypoallergenic, and vegan product is free of toxins, alcohol, all synthetic chemicals, gluten, GMOs, and fillers so it is perfect for sensitive skin. Although this product is not the best at removing heavy makeup, it is a great micellar water to use when one will not be able to rinse their face (like on a camping trip or a long airplane ride) because it does not leave the skin feeling sticky.

IT Cosmetics™: Miracle Water 3-in-1 Tonic

This product is great for those who are concerned with preventing aging. In addition, this micellar water also softens and brightens the skin.

Bioderma: Sensibio H2O

This micellar water has amazing reviews, a cult following, and is used by models during NYFW. I love how this product is the only dermatological micellar water that is perfectly compatible with the skin since its fatty acid esters (the constituent elements of micelles) are similar to the phospholipids of the skin cell membranes and naturally help rebuild the skin’s hydrolipidic film. In addition, this micellar water is perfect for sensitive skin and all skin types since it is fragrance-free, alcohol-free, paraben-free, and hypoallergenic.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month

The Skin Cancer Foundation states that “skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States (with over five million cases diagnosed in the United States each year) and is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer.”[1]  Even though skin cancer is clearly an epidemic, many people still refuse to wear sunscreen regularly. I would like to keep you safe this summer, so I have recommended various sunscreen products that I have tested and that I approve of immensely. I would also like to acknowledge that there are many sunscreen products that will leave dark skin very ashy. Therefore, I have made sure that all of my recommendations in this article will be amazing for all skin types and look great on all skin colors.

Cetaphil®: PRO Oil Absorbing Moisturizer SPF 30

This moisturizer (that has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation) is one of my favorite beauty products! This moisturizer helps to absorb oil, reduce shine, hydrate and provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It even contains Oleosome technology™ which uses a lower concentration of sunscreen filters for less irritation and greater hydration. This product is the perfect multitasking product!

Murad: Invisiblur Perfecting Shield

There are some people who avoid wearing sunscreen because they believe that sunscreen will mess up their foundation and overall makeup look. Thankfully, this sunscreen (that includes ingredients to prevent aging) is lightweight, clear, and is also a primer. Therefore, this product is perfect underneath your makeup!

Murad: City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA++++

This Murad sunscreen is also lightweight but comes with some pretty unique perks. This sunscreen (which contains Environmental Protection technology) protects skin from not two but five of the main causes of damage that accelerate signs of aging. The product protects against blue light from devices, pollution, infrared radiation, UVA rays, and UVB rays.

SUPERGOOP!: AcaiFusion Lip Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 30

It is very important that everyone protects their lips from the sun. This lip balm is great because it is infused with shea butter to moisturize chapped lips.

Clarins: Sunscreen Care Oil Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Protecting your scalp and your hair is a must. This product is not greasy and is lightweight and can be used on your hair, body, and scalp. In addition to being super versatile, this spray is also water-resistant!

Therefore, I am giving you an article that is ALL ABOUT FLOWERS! In this article, I recommend several beauty products that I know you will love. These recommendations are very cool because they will all have something to do with flowers! Enjoy!

Tatcha: Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil

This cleansing oil is amazing! Not only will this cleansing oil remove makeup but because it contains camellia oil (from the camellia flower) it will calm your skin down. This product has instantly removed redness from my skin when I had a case of dermatitis. I recommend that you use this in place of your regular cleanser twice a day if you have sensitive and/or dry skin. This is also a great face cleanser to use on your face after you get a chemical peel or a really in-depth facial.

Fresh: Rose Floral Toner

There are many people who skip using a toner because they are afraid of drying out their skin. It is understandable that one would love to avoid drying their skin. However, toning the skin is a very vital part of any skin care routine since toners pick up any leftover dirt etc. that can cause breakouts. I recommend this rose-water toner because it is alcohol-free and is perfect for every skin type. Finally, this toner can be a great way to refresh your skin during the summer if you let it chill in the fridge!

Farmacy: Honey Potion

The fact that this mask is great for hydrating your face may not be surprising to most people. However, did you know that this mask is also great for ensuring that your complexion stays clear? This mask contains honey (that is sourced in a farm in New York where the bees pollinate Echinacea flowers, which in turn, infuses the honey with potent natural antioxidants) and honey is great at battling breakouts!

PHLUR: Hanami

I  LOVE floral -scented perfumes! However, with all of the harmful toxins that many perfumes contain and with all of the problems that can come from wearing perfume, one may think it wise to give up on perfume once and for all.  Thankfully, PHLUR has come out with a floral perfume and it is made in the United States of America, cruelty-free, free of skin allergens, free of parabens, free of phthalates, free of unnecessary stabilizers, and is even free of animal products so it is great for vegans!

Origins: Flower Fusion™ Raspberry Refreshing Sheet Mask

Sheet masks are great for traveling and there is something super satisfying about peeling them off of your skin. This sheet mask is great is fortified with flower wax (flower wax is a byproduct of essential oil distillation) which gives the mask excellent emollient properties and makes it amazing for moisturizing the skin.
